Abstract
A multiple-input DC-DC converter that is capable of power diversification among different energy sources with different voltage-current characteristics. The converter is capable of bidirectional operation in buck, boost and buck-boost modes and provides a positive output voltage without the need for a transformer.
Claims23
A DC-DC converter comprising:
- a plurality of voltage inputs;
- a plurality of bidirectional switches, wherein each of the plurality of bidirectional switches is connected to one of the voltage inputs by an electrical path;
- an inductor is connected to each of the bidirectional switches by an electrical path;
- a plurality of converter switches in an electrical path with the inductor;
- the converter providing a voltage output that is bucked, boosted or buck/boosted relative to at least one of the voltage inputs, wherein the voltage output is bucked, boosted or buck/boosted by turning on, turning off or switching each of the plurality of converter switches and each of the plurality of bidirectional switches;
- and
- wherein the voltage output is a same polarity as a polarity of the voltage inputs.

A DC-DC converter comprising:
- a converter input comprising a first input voltage electrically connected to a first bidirectional switch and a second input voltage electrically connected to a second bidirectional switch;
- an output of the converter input electrically connected with both an inductor and a first switch, the first switch connected to a ground and the inductor connected to a second switch and a third switch, the second switch connected to the ground and the third switch connected to a voltage output in a parallel connection with a capacitor;
- and
- wherein the voltage output bucked, boosted or buck/boosted relative to one of the first input voltage or the second input voltage and the voltage output is a same polarity relative to the first input voltage or the second input voltage.
