Abstract
An animal model of angiogenesis is described. Nascent blood vessels are supported by a growth matrix comprising a growth factor. The nascent blood vessels are labeled with a fluorescent protein selectively expressed in cells forming these vessels.
Claims15
A transgenic animal model for angiogenesis which model comprises an animal modified to express a fluorescent protein in nascent blood vessel-forming cells and which further comprises one or more growth matrix units implanted in the subcutis.
A method to observe neovascularization in a transgenic animal, which method comprises directly observing by fluorescence microscopy the presence, absence or amount of fluorescence labeled nascent blood vessels formed by fluorescence labeled cells in a growth matrix implanted in the subcutis in said animal,
- wherein said fluorescence is generated from a fluorescent protein expressed in said cells;
- and
- wherein said growth matrix comprises an growth factor for angiogenesis.
