Abstract
Systems and methods of the present invention provide for optimizing resource utilization among a group of hardware resources using a routing protocol by migrating a hosted account and an associated IP address from a first network resource to a second network resource in response to a resource utilization change.
Claims19
A method performed by at least one microprocessor executing a plurality of instructions stored on at least one computer-readable media, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) hosting a Hosted Account on a First Hardware Resource within a group of resources, the Hosted Account associated with an IP Address;
- b) receiving an alert of a network resource utilization change affecting the group of resources;
- and
- c) migrating the Hosted Account and the IP Address to a Second Hardware Resource using a Routing Protocol in response to the network resource utilization change.

A system comprising:
- a) a First Hardware Resource and a Second Hardware Resource within a group of resources communicatively coupled to a network;
- b) a Hosted Account, accessible via a Server Software on the First Hardware Resource;
- c) an IP Address associated with the Hosted Account;
- d) a Loopback Interface attached to and for managing the IP Address comprising a means for generating an alert of a network resource utilization change within the group of resources;
- e) a Routing Protocol that advertises the accessibility of the IP Address to a Router;
- and
- f) a Provisioning System comprising:
- i) means for assigning the Hosted Account to the IP Address;
- ii) means for establishing the Server on the Second Hardware Resource;
- iii) means for instantiating the IP Address to be migrated to the Second Hardware Resource;
- iv) means for performing mounting and access checks for a Shared Storage associated with the IP Address and the Hosted Account;
- v) means for configuring local processes on and verifying proper operation of the Second Hardware Resource;
- vi) means for updating a Routing Table on the Router using the Routing Protocol so that the IP Address migrated is serviced by the Second Hardware Resource, thereby accomplishing a route swing;
- and
- vii) means for removing configuration data, processes, data mounts and a dynamic announcement from the First Hardware Resource.
