Abstract
The embodiments described herein provide techniques for monitoring updates involving data structures accessed in parallel transactions. In an example, objects may be stored in one of the data structures and such objects that may be accessed in multiple, parallel transactions. Counters are maintained in another data structure to track the stored objects. In an illustrative embodiment, this counter is based on a checksum that is derived from a sub key that uniquely identifies an object within a group of objects.
Claims22
A method of monitoring updates involving a first data structure and a second data structure that are configured to be accessed in a plurality of parallel transactions, the method comprising;
- receiving a request to update an object in the first data structure;
- identifying a checksum that is associated with the object, the checksum being derived from a sub key in the first data structure that uniquely identifies the object within a group of a plurality of objects;
- calculating a counter associated with the object based on the checksum and the request, the counter configured to track an existence of the object in the first data structure;
- and
- storing the counter in the second data structure.
A machine-readable medium that stores instructions, which when performed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
- receiving a request to update an object in a first data structure;
- identifying a sub key associated with the object that uniquely identifies the object within a group of a plurality of objects;
- identifying a counter in a second data structure associated with the object, the counter configured to track an existence of the object in the first data structure;
- calculating a checksum based on the sub key;
- and
- modifying the counter in the second data structure based on the checksum and the request.
A processing system comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- a memory in communication with the at least one processor, the memory being configured to store a database management system that is executable by the at least one processor, the database management system having instructions, that when executed by the at least one processor, cause operations to be performed, comprising:
- receiving a first request to update a temporary quantity assignment (TQA) in a first database;
- receiving a second request, in parallel with the first request, to update the TQA in the first database;
- identifying a checksum in the first database that is associated with the TQA, the checksum being derived from a sub key in the first database that uniquely identifies the TQA within a group of a plurality of TQAs;
- calculating a counter associated with the TQA based on the checksum and the first and second requests, the counter configured to track an existence of the TQA in the first database;
- and
- storing the counter in the second database.
