Abstract
Disclosed are methods of reducing amyloid-β peptide levels in a subject. The method involves administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a bisdioxopiperazine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to reduce β-amyloid peptide levels.
Claims35
A method of reducing amyloid-β peptide levels in a subject, said method comprising:
- administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a bisdioxopiperazine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the bisdioxopiperazine has the general formula
- wherein R1 is H, CH3 or CH2OH,
- R2 is H, CH3 or CH2OH,
- R3 is H, CH3 or C2H5,
- R4 is H, CH3 or C2H5,
- R5 is H or CH3, and
- R6 is H or CH3;
- and
- reducing amyloid-β levels in the subject.

A method of reducing aggregation of alpha-synuclein or tau protein in a subject, said method comprising:
- administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a bisdioxopiperazine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the bisdioxopiperazine has the general formula
- wherein R1 is H, CH3 or CH2OH,
- R2 is H, CH3 or CH2OH,
- R3 is H, CH3 or C2H5,
- R4 is H, CH3 or C2H5,
- R5 is H or CH3, and
- R6 is H or CH3;
- and
- reducing the aggregation of alpha-synuclein or tau protein in the subject.

A method of reducing abnormal protein folding or aggregation of abnormally folded proteins in a subject, said method comprising:
- administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a bisdioxopiperazine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the bisdioxopiperazine has the general formula
- wherein R1 is H, CH3 or CH2OH,
- R2 is H, CH3 or CH2OH,
- R3 is H, CH3 or C2H5,
- R4 is H, CH3 or C2H5,
- R5 is H or CH3, and
- R6 is H or CH3;
- and
- reducing abnormal protein folding or aggregation of abnormally folded proteins in the subject.
