A method for detecting HDV-RNA in a biological sample, which method is characterized in that it comprises:
- (1) a step of extracting HDV-RNA from a biological sample and
- (2) a step of evaluating the quantity of said HDV-RNA by real-time RT-PCR quantification comprising:
- amplifying the cDNA corresponding to said HDV-RNA in the presence of at least a pair of primers selected from the group consisting of the following pairs:
- (a) Delta-F (direct primer):
- 5′-GCATGGTCCCAGCCTCC-3′ (SEQ ID NO:1) and Delta-R (reverse primer):
- 5′-TCTTCGGGTCGGCATGG-3′ (SEQ ID NO:2) and
- (b) T3-Delta-F (direct primer):
- 5′-GCATGGCCCCAGCCTCC-3′ (SEQ ID NO:3) and Delta-R (reverse primer):
- 5′-TCTTCGGGTCGGCATGG-3′ (SEQ ID NO:2);
- and
- detecting the quantity of the formed amplicons and comparing said quantity with at least a control sample.

Pairs of primers able to amplify any HDV genome, said pairs of primers being selected from the group consisting of the pair of primers SEQ ID NO:1 and SEQ ID NO:2 and the pair of primers SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:2.
