Abstract
A fiber laser system is configured with a power measuring assembly surrounding a splice between two fibers. The power measuring assembly is operative to maintain the splice at a substantially constant splice temperature and shield the spliced fibers from external bending stresses so as to provide for power readings of the laser system at the splice independently from the influence of multiple variable external factors.
Claims16
A fiber laser system comprising:
- a plurality of light guiding fibers having respective ends joined at a splice;
- and
- a power measuring assembly surrounding the splice and operative to measure a power of the fiber system so that power readings at the splice are substantially unaffected by a changeable external factor capable of detrimentally affecting the power readings.
A coherent light source comprising:
- a fiber supporting module receiving optical fibers, which are coupled at a splice, and configured so as to shield the coupled fibers from external mechanical loads,
- a temperature-controlling unit coupled to the module and operative to maintain a substantially constant temperature at the splice;
- and
- a power measuring unit coupled to the module close to the splice and operative to provide power readings of the light source.
The coherent light source of claim 15 has a configuration selected from the group consisting from MOPFA and Fabri-Perot.
A method of measuring a power of light signal radiated by a fiber light source comprising controllably maintaining a substantially constant temperature at a splice between multiple fibers while providing power readings of light scattered from the splice.
