Abstract
Method and system for altering a sending rate of media packets in a peer-to-peer network that includes a client node and a plurality of serving peer nodes.
Claims20
A method of altering a sending rate of media packets in a peer-to-peer network that includes a client node and a plurality of serving peer nodes, the method comprising:
- receiving a packet by the client node from a serving peer node of the plurality of serving peer nodes;
- detecting a link status of the link from the serving peer node to the client node;
- sending feedback to the serving peer node based on the link status, comprising:
- a) increasing the sending rate periodically if the congestion is not detected between the client node and the serving peer node;
- or
- b) decreasing the sending rate immediately if the congestion is detected between the client node and the serving peer node;
- altering the sending rate of the serving peer node based upon the feedback.
A method of altering a sending rate of media packets in a peer-to-peer network that includes a client node and a plurality of serving peer nodes, the method comprising:
- initializing a last loss rate to 0;
- determining a current loss rate of sending a packet to the client node from a serving peer node of the plurality of serving peer nodes;
- determining a current receiving rate of the packet;
- determining if the current rate loss is larger than the minimum of the last loss rate and a max loss;
- sending feedback to the serving peer node based on the current loss rate comprising:
- a) increasing the sending rate to 2×current receiving rate if the current loss rate is smaller than the minimum of the last loss rate and the max loss;
- b) decreasing the sending rate by 2 if the current loss rate is larger than the minimum of the last loss rate and the max loss;
- altering the sending rate of the serving peer node based upon the feedback.
A client node computer in a peer-to-peer network that includes a plurality of serving peer nodes, the serving peer nodes sending media packets to
- a queue size controller to calculate a bandwidth budget of links from the plurality of serving peer nodes to the client node by controlling a size of sender queues of the plurality of serving peer nodes;
- and
- a rate controller to send feedback to the serving peer node based on a link status between the client node and the serving peer node, the feedback comprising:
- a) increasing the sending rate periodically if the congestion is not detected between the client node and the serving peer node;
- or
- b) decreasing the sending rate immediately if the congestion is detected between the client node and the serving peer node.
