Text flow in and around irregular containers

A method for providing text flow within a non-rectangular container, comprising:

• using a processor to find a difference area, if any, in which a proposed text rectangle is present but the container is not present;
• using the processor to determine a bounding rectangle for the difference area;
• and
• using the processor to identify as a valid text area within the proposed text rectangle a valid rectangle, if any, that does not include the bounding rectangle or any portion thereof.

A system for providing text flow around a non-rectangular graphic, comprising:

• a processor configured to find an intersection, if any, between a proposed text rectangle and the graphic;
• determine a bounding rectangle of the intersection;
• and identify as a valid text area within the proposed text rectangle a valid rectangle, if any, that does not include the bounding rectangle or any portion thereof;
• and
• a memory configured to provide instructions to the processor.

A computer program product for providing text flow around a non-rectangular graphic, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for:

• finding an intersection, if any, between a proposed text rectangle and the graphic;
• determining a bounding rectangle of the intersection;
• and
• identifying as a valid text area within the proposed text rectangle a valid rectangle, if any, that does not include the bounding rectangle or any portion thereof.
