Compositions and uses associated with the MT477 family of compounds are disclosed. Particular structural features and properties of the compounds are described in detail. Uses include administering an MT477 family member to a patient for therapeutic purposes. Compositions include chemicals belonging to the MT477 family and pharmaceuticals that contain such chemicals.

A method for treating a patient, the method comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising a chemical comprising a formula A-Z—Y, wherein A comprises a tricyclic group;
- Z is a linking group that that joins A to Y along a backbone having between one and thirty bonds;
- and Y comprises a cyclic group comprising at least one of C, S, O, N, or P.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent associated with a therapeutically effective amount of a chemical comprising a formula A-Z—Y, wherein A comprises a tricyclic group;
- Z is a linking group that that joins A to Y along a backbone having between one and thirty bonds;
- and Y comprises a cyclic group comprising at least one of C, S, O, N, or P.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent associated with a therapeutically effective amount of a chemical comprising a formula
- wherein X1 and X2 are independently chosen to be O, N, S, or P, and G is a group having at least rings, with each ring having at least two members in common with at least one other ring, wherein G included an atom that is bound to both X1 and X2.
