Abstract
Process for the growing of micro-organism in an open and continuous system further being characterized by means for creating within said system a habitat in which natural, diverse and heterogeneous emicrobial communities can autonomously react and adapt to a changing environment
Claims3
An apparatus for growing micro-organisms, the apparatus comprising:
- a) at least one process unit comprising means for micro-organisms to attach, said means being at least one artificial substratum transversally positioned in the flow;
- b) an extracting unit;
- c) a harvesting unit.
An extracting device for use in the production of micro-organisms and/or biomass having means to transport an artificial substratum to a harvesting device wherein said device comprises a carrier onto which the artificial substratum is mounted.
An artificial substratum for use in the production of micro-organisms and/or biomass characterized by means to force the stream through or near the artificial substratum and the microbial communities attached to the substratum, said means being fractal or fractal-like openings in the artificial substratum.
