A switching element comprising an ion conductive layer capable of conducting a metal ion, a first electrode arranged in contact with said ion conductive layer, and a second electrode for supplying said metal ion to said ion conductive layer, said switching element utilizing an electro-chemical reaction to operate,
- an oxygen absorption layer including a material more prone to oxidization than said second electrode is arranged in contact with said second electrode.
A switching element comprising an ion conductive layer capable of conducting a metal ion, a first electrode arranged in contact with said ion conductive layer, a second electrode which exhibits a change in electric characteristics with said first electrode due to deposition or dissolution of said metal ion, and a third electrode for supplying said metal ion to said ion conductive layer, said switching element utilizing an electro-chemical reaction to operate,
- an oxygen absorption layer including a material more prone to oxidization than said third electrode is arranged in contact with said third electrode.
A method for manufacturing a switching element comprising an ion conductive layer capable of conducting a metal ion, a first electrode arranged in contact with said ion conductive layer, and a second electrode for supplying said metal ion to said ion conductive layer, said switching element utilizing an electro-chemical reaction to operate, said method comprising:
- forming said second electrode;
- forming an oxygen absorption layer including a material more prone to oxidization than said second electrode on one of two surfaces defined by said second electrode;
- forming said ion conductive layer on one of two surfaces defined by said oxygen absorption layer, not in contact with said second electrode;
- and
- forming said first electrode on one of two surfaces defined by said ion conductive layer, not in contact with said ion conductive layer.
- forming said first electrode;
- forming said ion conductive layer on one of two surfaces defined by said first electrode;
- forming said second electrode on one of two surfaces defined by said ion conductive layer, not in contact with said first electrode;
- and
- forming an oxygen absorption layer including a material more prone to oxidization than said second electrode on one of two surfaces defined by said second electrode, not in contact with said ion conductive layer.
