Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved isolated core or insulated conductor with a low dielectric constant and reduced materials costs. Apparatuses and methods of manufacturing the improved isolated core or insulated conductor are also disclosed.
Claims24
A twisted wire pair comprising:
- a first wire and a second wire, the first and second wires being twisted about one another to form a twisted pair;
- and
- the first and second wires each including:
- a conductor;
- and
- an insulator surrounding the conductor, the insulator defining at least twelve channels having lengths that run generally along a length of the conductor, the at least twelve channels being circumferentially spaced relative to one another about the conductor, wherein all of the at least twelve channels include either channels surrounded on all sides by the insulator or channels each having an open side that faces toward the conductor.

A telecommunications cable comprising:
- two twisted pairs of wires, the two twisted pairs of wires twisted around each other to define a core;
- and
- an outer jacket surrounding the core;
- wherein each of the two twisted pairs of wires includes a first wire and a second wire, the first and second wires each including:
- a conductor;
- and
- an insulator surrounding the conductor, the insulator defining at least twelve channels having lengths that run generally along a length of the conductor, the at least twelve channels being circumferentially spaced relative to one another about the conductor, wherein all of the at least twelve channels include either channels surrounded on all sides by the insulator or channels each having an open side that faces toward the conductor.
