A kit for the assembly of a device for holding and moving a powered sawhead having a powered saw blade along a linear path when combined with a ladder, said ladder having a first side member, a second side member relatively horizontal to said first member, and a plurality of rungs extending perpendicularly between said first side member and said second side member, said kit comprising:
- a carriage base having an assembly capable of engaging the first side member, second side member, or both the first side member and the second side member of said ladder;
- a vertical post extending from a top end to a bottom end, said post being or capable of being attached at the bottom end to the carriage base;
- a vertical slide, extending horizontally from said post or capable of being attached to said post in a manner that it extends horizontally therefrom, capable, when extending horizontally from said post, of vertical displacement along said post, said displacement being lockable;
- said vertical slide further being capable of being attached to said powered sawhead;
- instructions comprising directions for assembling the carriage base along the ladder, the vertical post to the carriage base, optionally the vertical slide to the vertical post, and the vertical slide to the sawhead such that, when the device is assembled, the powered sawhead is affixed, and the ladder is placed in a generally horizontal position, the powered saw blade is capable of cutting in a generally horizontal plane and the carriage base is capable of horizontal movement along at least one of said side members.
The kit of claim 1 wherein the vertical displacement of the vertical slide is adjustable and lockable through a lift screw mechanism.
The kit of claim 1 wherein the vertical post and the vertical slide are of close contact sleeve construction.
The kit of claim 1, wherein the carriage base comprises a wheel assembly for enabling the horizontal movement along at least one of the side members.
The kit of claim 4 wherein the wheel assembly comprises:
- a fixed flanged wheel that is capable of riding on, and abutting against an inside upper lip of the first side member or the second side member;
- and
- an adjustable flanged wheel that is capable of riding under and abutting against an outside lower lip of the first side member or the second side member.
The kit of claim 1, further comprising a push handle for displacing the device horizontally along the ladder.
The kit of claim 6 further comprising a throttle handle on said push handle, a cable connecting said throttle handle to a throttle activator, said throttle activator capable of being attached to and activating a throttle of the powered sawhead, wherein the instructions further comprise directions for attaching the throttle activator to the powered sawhead.
The kit of claim 1 wherein said sawhead can be selected from any one of a chainsaw, a circular saw, or a band saw, and the instructions comprise directions for optionally attaching the vertical slide to a chainsaw, a circular saw, and a bandsaw.
The kit of claim 1 further comprising an outrigger arm capable of being adjustably connected to the carriage base and having an outrigger assembly, said outrigger arm capable of engaging said second side member, wherein said adjustable connection allows for varying, lockable distances between the carriage base wheel assembly and the outrigger wheel assembly such that the ladder the device can be assembled on can be of variable rung length, wherein the instructions further comprise directions for connecting the outrigger arm to the carriage base, and adjusting the adjustable connection such that, when assembled onto a ladder placed in a generally horizontal position, the outrigger arm is capable of generally horizontal movement along said second side member.
The kit of claim 9 wherein the outrigger wheel assembly is a twin, non-flanged wheel assembly.
The kit of claim 1 wherein the vertical side comprises a horizontally projecting sawhead support plate capable of being removably affixed to the vertical slide and further capable of being affixed to a powered sawhead having a saw blade such that, when affixed to both the vertical slide and the sawhead, and the ladder is placed in a generally horizontal position, the saw blade is capable of cutting in a generally horizontal plane, and wherein the instructions include directions for affixing the support plate to the powered sawhead and to the vertical side.
A method for constructing a device for holding and moving a powered sawhead having a powered saw blade along a linear path, comprising:
- selecting a ladder having a first side member, a second side member, and rungs extending perpendicularly between said first side member and said second side member;
- slidably attaching a carriage base to said ladder, said carriage base having an assembly capable of engaging either said first side member, said second side member, or both the first side member and the second side member;
- such that, when attached, the carriage base is capable of sliding along said side member(s);
- attaching a bottom end of a vertical post to a bottom end to the carriage base;
- slidably attaching a vertical slide to said vertical post so that it extends horizontally therefrom and is capable, when extending horizontally from said post, of slidable vertical displacement along said post, said displacement being lockable;
- attaching said vertical slide to said powered sawhead so that, when the device is so constructed, and the ladder is in a generally horizontal position, the powered saw blade is capable of cutting in a generally horizontal plane.
The method of claim 12 wherein the vertical post and the vertical slide are of close contact sleeve construction.
The method of claim 12, wherein the carriage base comprises a wheel assembly for enabling the horizontal movement along at least one of the side members.
The method of claim 14 wherein the wheel assembly further comprises a fixed flanged wheel and an adjustable flanged wheel, and the method further comprises:
- fitting the fixed flanged wheel onto, and abutting against an inside upper lip of, the first side member or the second side member;
- and
- fitting the adjustable flanged wheel under, and abutting against, an outside lower lip of the first side member or the second side member.
The method of claim 12, further comprising attaching a push handle to the carriage base and extending to the opposite side of the saw blade, for displacing the device horizontally along the ladder.
The method of claim 16 further comprising:
- attaching a throttle handle on said push handle, said throttle handle being connected to a throttle activator;
- and
- attaching said throttle activator to the powered sawhead in a manner such that the throttle activator is capable of activating a throttle of said powered sawhead.
The method of claim 12 wherein the device has an outrigger arm having an outrigger wheel assembly and an adjustable connection allowing for varying, lockable distances between the outrigger wheel assembly and the end of the outrigger arm, further comprising:
- connecting said outrigger arm to the carriage base;
- adjusting the distance between the carriage base and the outrigger wheel assembly such that a wheel of the outrigger wheel assembly can be placed on the second side member of the ladder;
- placing the wheel of the outrigger wheel assembly on the second side member of the ladder in a manner such that, when the ladder is placed in a generally horizontal position, the outrigger arm is capable of generally horizontal movement along said second side member.
The method of claim 18 wherein the outrigger wheel assembly is a twin, non-flanged wheel assembly.
The method of claim 12 wherein the vertical side comprises a horizontally projecting sawhead support plate capable of being affixed to the vertical slide and further capable of being affixed to a powered sawhead having a saw blade, further comprising:
- affixing the support plate to the powered sawhead;
- affixing the support plate to the vertical slide.
