Abstract
The specification describes a method for selectively depositing carbon nanotubes on the end face of an optical fiber. The end face of the optical fiber is exposed to a dispersion of carbon nanotubes while light is propagated through the optical fiber. Carbon nanotubes deposit selectively on the light emitting core of the optical fiber.
Claims17
A method for selectively coating an end face of an optical fiber with a coating material comprising, contacting the end face of the optical fiber with a liquid comprising the coating material, illuminating a first selected region of the end face of the optical fiber by propagating light through the optical fiber leaving a second selected region without illumination thereby selectively coating the first region with coating material but not the second region.
(canceled)
A method for selectively coating an end face of a light emitting element with carbon nanotubes, comprising contacting the end face of the light emitting element with a liquid comprising carbon nanotubes, illuminating a first selected region of the end face of the light emitting element by emitting light from the end face of the light emitting element leaving a second selected region of the end face of the light emitting element without illumination thereby coating the first region with carbon nanotubes but not the second region.
An optical fiber subsystem comprising a laser coupled by an optical fiber to a mode-locking element, the mode locking element comprising an optical fiber having an end face and the end face comprising a core portion and a cladding portion and a coating of carbon nanotubes, wherein the coating of carbon nanotubes coats the core portion but not the cladding portion.
An optical fiber subsystem comprising an element having a core portion and a cladding portion wherein a coating of carbon nanotubes coats the core portion but not the cladding portion.
