Method and system for reliably and efficiently transporting data over a network

A data transport system for transporting data between a server and a client receiver, comprising:

• a memory device;
• a data stream channel coupled between said memory device and a client receiver;
• a first transmission link between the server and said memory device, said first transmission link being configured to transmit a plurality of data packets from the server to said memory device;
• and
• a second transmission link between the server and said memory device, said second transmission link being configured to retransmit a data packet from the server to said memory device in response to said memory device detecting a transmission error associated with the data packet.

A process for transporting data from a server to a client receiver, comprising the steps of:

• providing a receiving proxy cache coupled to a client receiver via a data stream channel;
• packaging the data stored on the server into a plurality of data packets;
• transmitting the plurality of data packets to the receiving proxy cache over a first link;
• verifying a transmission status associated with each of the plurality of data packets at the receiving proxy cache;
• transmitting a data packet to the receiving proxy cache over a second link in response to a transmission status associated with the data packet being in error;
• and
• transporting the plurality of data packets received at the receiving proxy cache to a client receiver via a data stream channel.
