Abstract
A method for performing data set migration includes receiving a request to migrate data sets, finding the systems with the data sets open, establishing at least one I/O intercept, copying the data set, mirroring changes to the data set, updating control information in the systems with the data sets open, and terminating the at least one I/O intercept.
Claims24
A method for completing a migration of an open data set from a first storage location to a second storage location, comprising:
- identifying any applications accessing the open data set being migrated;
- and
- updating control information of the identified application(s) accessing the open data set to reflect the second storage location, without terminating the identified application(s) or closing the data set, so the identified application(s) will access the open data set at the second location using the updated control information;
A computer program product for data set migration, the computer program product comprising:
- a computer usable medium having computer usable program code embodied therewith, the computer usable program code comprising:
- computer usable program code configured to identify applications accessing a data set at a first location;
- computer usable program code configured to update control information of the identified applications accessing the data set to reflect a second location, without terminating the identified application(s) or closing the data set, so the identified application(s) will access the open data set at the second location using the updated control information;
- and
- computer usable program code configured to migrate the data set from the first location to the second location.
An apparatus for migrating data sets, comprising:
- means for identifying applications accessing a data set at a first location;
- means for updating control information of the identified applications accessing the data set to reflect a second location, without terminating the identified application(s) or closing the data set, so the identified application(s) will access the open data set at the second location using the updated control information;
- and
- means for migrating the data set from the first location to the second location.
The apparatus of claim 24 in which the first location and the second location are separate storage volumes.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
