Abstract
A method is proposed for providing a remedy to the problem of address conflict when setting up a communications tunnel between a first tunnel end-point of a first communications sub-network and a second tunnel end-point of a second communications sub-network distinct from said first sub-network, in proposing an efficient method for the dynamic management of the address spaces of each sub-network, implemented by a tunnel end-point upon detection of a request for linking two sub-networks by a tunnel.
Claims18
A method for managing address spaces when setting up a communications tunnel between a first tunnel end-point of a first communications sub-network and a second tunnel end-point of a second communications sub-network distinct from said first sub-network, to each apparatus connected to a given sub-network among said first and second sub-networks being allocated an address included in an address space associated with said given sub-network, said method being performed by the first tunnel end-point and wherein it comprises the following steps:
- detecting at least one pair of apparatuses to which a same address is allocated, each pair of apparatuses comprising a first apparatus of the first sub-network and a second apparatus of the second sub-network;
- selecting at least one apparatus of each pair of apparatuses;
- allocating a new address to each selected apparatus;
- and
- setting up the tunnel between the first and second sub-networks.
A device for managing address spaces when setting up a communications tunnel between a first tunnel end-point of a first communications sub-network and a second tunnel end-point of a second communications sub-network distinct from said first sub-network, to each apparatus connected to a given sub-apparatus among said first and second sub-networks being allocated an address included in an address space associated with said given sub-network, wherein the first tunnel end-point comprises:
- first means for detecting at least one pair of apparatuses to which a same address is allocated, each pair of apparatuses comprising a first apparatus of the first sub-network and a second apparatus of the second sub-network;
- means for selecting at least one apparatus of each pair of apparatuses;
- means for allocating a new address to each selected apparatus;
- and
- means for setting up the tunnel between the first and second sub-networks.
