Abstract
There is provided novel amino acid ester compounds comprising at least one nitric oxide releasing group and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and novel compositions comprising at least one amino acid ester compound comprising at least one nitric oxide releasing group, and, optionally, at least one nitric oxide donor and/or at least one therapeutic agent. Also provided are compositions for increasing nitric oxide physiological levels in a subject, methods for increasing nitric oxide physiological levels in a subject, methods for improving a subject's muscle strength, athletic performances and/or lean body mass gain and or performance in a subject.

A compound of formula (II), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the compound of formula (II) is:
- wherein,
- n=1 to 10;
- R1=—CH2CH3;
- R2=an amino acid side chain group (D or L configuration), a modified amino acid side chain group (D or L configuration) or derivatives thereof.
A composition for increasing nitric oxide physiological levels in a subject, which comprises a therapeutically effective amount of the compound of Formula I to II in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier,
- wherein the compound of Formula (I) is:
- wherein,
- n=1 to 10;
- R1=an amino acid side chain group (D or L configuration), a modified amino acid side chain group (D or L configuration), and derivatives thereof;
- wherein the compound of formula (II) is:
- wherein,
- n=1 to 10;
- R1=—CH2CH3;
- R2=an amino acid side chain group (D or L configuration), a modified amino acid side chain group (D or L configuration) or derivatives thereof.
