Abstract
The present invention relates generally to variants and peptides of the mitochondrial protein, voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) and to polynucleotides encoding same. In particular, the present invention is directed to N-terminal truncated and mutated VDAC and specific amino acid and polynucleotide sequences thereof useful in inhibiting apoptosis, and to pharmaceutical compositions comprising same useful in the treatment of diseases associated with excess apoptosis.

An N-terminal voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) variant molecule capable of inhibiting apoptosis in a cell, the variant molecule selected from the group consisting of an N-terminal truncated VDAC polypeptide, an N-terminal VDAC mutated polypeptide and a mutated VDAC N-terminal derived peptide, a fragment, analog, chemical derivative and a salt thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) variant molecule capable of inhibiting apoptosis in a cell, the molecule selected from the group consisting of an N-terminal truncated VDAC polypeptide, an N-terminal mutated VDAC polypeptide and a mutate VDAC N-terminal derived peptide, a fragment, analog, chemical derivative and a salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) molecule capable of inhibiting apoptosis in a cell, the molecule selected from a polynucleotide encoding an N-terminal truncated VDAC polypeptide, a polynucleotide encoding an N-terminal mutated VDAC polypeptide, a polynucleotide encoding a mutated VDAC N-terminal derived peptide and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.
