Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for cancer diagnostics, prognostics and predictions, including but not limited to, cancer markers. In particular, the present invention provides perinucleolar compartments and their resident molecules as cancer markers.
Claims17
A method for predicting metastases of colon cancer comprising:
- a) screening a colon cancer sample from a subject for the prevalence of perinucleolar compartments, wherein said sample comprises colon cancer cells;
- and
- b) determining if said subject is susceptible to metastases of said colon cancer based on said prevalence of said perinucleolar compartments, wherein said subject is susceptible to metastases if said prevalence of said perinucleolar compartments is over about 80% of said colon cancer cells.
A method of identifying the stage of colon cancer progression comprising:
- a) providing colon cancer tissue from a subject, wherein said colon cancer tissue comprises cells;
- b) identifying the prevalence of perinucleolar compartments in said colon cancer tissue;
- and
- c) correlating said prevalence of perinucleolar compartments in said colon cancer tissue with the stage of colon cancer progression in said subject.
