Abstract
A composition for delivery of osteogenic proteins is disclosed. The composition comprises an osteogenic protein, a calcium phosphate material as a carrier, and an effective amount of an effervescent agent. Methods of making the compositions and methods of using the osteogenic compositions to treat osteoporotic and/or osteopenic bone are also disclosed.
Claims28
A method of treating a mammal having a dental defect comprising administering to the site of the dental defect an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one osteogenic TGF-β family member protein, a calcium phosphate material as a carrier, and an effective amount of a material that liberates gas upon dissolution in vivo.
A method of imbedding an object into a bone of a mammal comprising placing an object comprising non-resorbable hardware into the bone and further securing the object with a composition comprising at least one osteogenic TGF-β family member protein, a calcium phosphate material as a carrier, and an effective amount of a material that liberates gas upon dissolution in vivo.
A method of improving biocompatibility of braided sutures comprising coating the braided sutures with a composition comprising at least one osteogenic TGF-β family member protein, a calcium phosphate material as a carrier, and an effective amount of a material that liberates gas upon dissolution in vivo.
A method of treating a bone defect in a mammal comprising administering to the site of the bone defect an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one osteogenic TGF-β family member protein, a calcium phosphate material as a carrier, and an effective amount of a material that liberates gas upon dissolution in vivo.
A method of osseous augmentation or regeneration in a mammal comprising administering, to the site where augmentation or regeneration is desired, an effective amount of a composition comprising at least one osteogenic TGF-β family member protein, a calcium phosphate material as a carrier, and an effective amount of a material that liberates gas upon dissolution in vivo.
