Abstract
In a method for the production of a single photon source with a given operational performance, the given operational performance for the individual photon source may be fixed by a directed setting of the fine structure gap of the excitonic energy level for at least one quantum dot. The at least one quantum dot is produced with a quantum dot size corresponding to the fine structure gap for setting.

A method for producing a single-photon source having a predetermined operating characteristic, the method which comprises:
- establishing the predetermined operating characteristic of the single-photon source by a targeted setting of a fine structure splitting of an exciton energy level of at least one quantum dot;
- by producing the at least one quantum dot with a quantum dot size corresponding to the fine structure splitting to be set.
A method for producing a single-photon source, which comprises:
- producing a cavity having one or more longitudinal resonant frequencies and having a plurality of quantum dots disposed therein which, during an operation of the single-photon source, generate photons in each case with its own emission frequency;
- producing a charge carrier injection device and arranging said device such that, during the operation of the single-photon source, said device injects charge carriers into said cavity and excites said quantum dots into generating the photons;
- and
- selecting a surface density of said quantum dots to be so low and selecting a dispersion with respect to size and material composition of said quantum dots to be so large that, during the operation of the single-photon source, only the emission frequency of a single quantum dot corresponds to one of said longitudinal resonant frequencies of said cavity and can be coupled out of said cavity.
A method for producing a single-photon source, which comprises:
- producing a cavity having one or more longitudinal resonant frequencies, with at least one quantum dot layer arranged inside the cavity;
- producing an excitation device and placing the excitation device to excite at least one quantum dot into generating photons during an operation of the single-photon source;
- and
- applying a highly reflective layer on side walls of the cavity extending along an emission direction of the photons.
A single-photon source for emitting single linearly polarized photons or transposed photon pairs, comprising:
- one or more quantum dots configured to generate photons during an operation of the single-photon source and each having an emission frequency;
- a cavity having one or more longitudinal resonant frequencies and having said quantum dots arranged therein;
- and
- a charge carrier injection device configured to inject, during the operation of the single-photon source, charge carriers into an area of the cavity and excite the one or more quantum dots into generating the photons;
- wherein, during the operation of the single-photon source, only photons of a single quantum dot are coupled out, namely, the photons of the quantum dot having the emission frequency corresponding to one of the longitudinal resonant frequencies of the cavity.
A single-photon source for emitting single linearly polarized photons or transposed photon pairs, comprising:
- at least one quantum dot which, during an operation of the single-photon source, generates photons having one emission frequency;
- a cavity within which the at least one quantum dot is arranged, said cavity having a filter characteristic such that resonant coupling only occurs between a single one of said quantum dots and said cavity;
- an excitation device configured to excite the at least one quantum dot into generating the photons during the operation of the single-photon source;
- and
- a highly reflective layer applied at the side walls of the cavity extending along an emission direction of the photons.
A method for driving a single-photon source, which comprises:
- setting a temperature of the single-photon source such that an emission frequency of a quantum dot which has a lowest emission frequency of all excited quantum dots corresponds to a longitudinal natural frequency of a cavity of the single-photon source.
A method for driving a single-photon source, which comprises setting the emission spectrum of the excitation device used for the optical excitation such that the emission spectrum is energetically above the states of the quantum dot and is also in a range in which the cavity is transparent.
A method for producing a single-photon source having a predetermined operating characteristic, which comprises:
- establishing the predetermined operating characteristic of the single-photon source by selectively setting a strain of at least one quantum dot by producing the at least one quantum dot with a quantum dot size corresponding to the strain to be set.
