Method and apparatus for user interface modification

A method according to any preceding claim, wherein said user interface data comprises user interface computer program code.

A method according to any preceding claim, the method comprising receiving a single computer readable file referencing said user interface data and said modification computer program code.

A method according to any preceding claim, wherein said user interface data and said modification computer program code are provided in a computer readable file, and the method further comprises:

• interpreting said computer readable file to modify said user interface data so as to generate modified user interface data;
• and
• displaying a user interface based upon said modified user interface data.

A method according to any preceding claim, wherein said user interface data comprises a plurality of instructions, including at least one first instruction configured so as to prevent its execution by the client, and said modification computer program code comprises at least one second instruction configured to modify said user interface data, the method further comprising:

• executing said at least one second instruction to cause modification of said at least one first instruction;
• and
• executing said at least one first instruction after modification.

A computer readable medium carrying computer readable program code configured to cause a computer to carry out a method according to any preceding claim.

A method of modifying operation of a user interface, the method comprising:

• providing user interface data to a client;
• providing modification computer program code to said client, said modification computer program code being executable at said client to modify said user interface data to generate modified user interface data.

A method of executing computer program code, the method comprising:

• processing said computer program code to identify second computer program code and third computer program code;
• not executing said second computer program code;
• executing said third computer program code to modify said second program code such that said second computer program code is configured to be executed.

A method of generating information indicative of user interface structure, the method comprising:

• processing computer program code defining said user interface, said processing comprising associating at least one event handler with at least one element of said user interface, the or each event handler being configured to provide information relating to said user interface.

A computer readable file configured to provide a user interface the computer readable file comprising:

• a first portion referencing computer program code defining a user interface;
• a second portion referencing computer program code configured to monitor operation of said user interface, and to modify said user interface.

A method for affecting operation of a user interface defined by user interface computer program code provided from a server to a client, the method comprising, at the server:

• processing said user interface computer program code;
• adding additional computer program code to said user interface computer program code, said additional computer program code being executable at the client to affect operation of the user interface.

A method for affecting operation of a user interface defined by user interface computer program code provided from a server to a client, the method comprising, at the client:

• receiving user interface program code, including at least one modification instruction;
• and
• executing said at least one modification instruction to affect operation of said user interface program code.

A computer configured to modify a user interface, the computer comprising:

• a network connection configured to receive user interface data from a first server, and to receive modification computer program code;
• and
• a processor configured to execute said modification computer program code to modify said user interface data to generate modified user interface data.

Apparatus configured to modify operation of a user interface, the apparatus comprising:

• means for providing user interface data to a client;
• means for providing modification computer program code to said client, said modification computer program code being executable at said client to modify said user interface data to generate modified user interface data.

Apparatus for modifying input computer program code, the apparatus comprising:

• a processor configured to process said input computer program code to identify first computer program code, the processor being further configured to replace the identified first computer program code with second computer program code and third computer program code;
• wherein said second computer program code is configured so as not to be executed when said input computer program code is executed, and said third computer program code is configured to be executed when said input computer program code is executed to modify said second program code such that said second computer program code is configured to be executed.

Apparatus for executing computer program code, the apparatus comprising:

• means for processing said computer program code to identify second computer program code and third computer program code;
• means configured not to execute said second computer program code;
• means configured to execute said third computer program code to modify said second program code such that said second computer program code is configured to be executed.

Apparatus for generating information indicative of user interface structure, the apparatus comprising:

• means for processing computer program code defining said user interface;
• and
• means for associating at least one event handler with at least one element of said user interface, the or each event handler being configured to provide information relating to said user interface.
