Abstract
There is provided a method and apparatus for bus negotiation. One such method includes determining a configuration of a first bond pad, the first bond pad indicating whether a host is configured to communicate with a fixed data storage device or a removable data storage device. If the first bond pad indicates the host is configured to communicate with a fixed data storage device, then the method additionally includes determining the configuration of a second bond pad. The second bond pad indicates the supported bus width of the fixed data storage device.

A device comprising:
- a processor;
- a controller having a configuration mechanism, wherein the configuration mechanism is configured to indicate a storage device type and a bus width of a bus communicably coupled between the controller and a storage device;
- and
- a port configured to facilitate communication between the processor and the controller.

A device comprising:
- a bus having a first interface and a second interface;
- and
- a controller coupled to the first interface, and configured to control data flow from a data storage device coupled to the second interface, wherein the controller is configurable to support a plurality of initialization sequences.
A method, comprising:
- determining a configuration of a first bond pad on a controller;
- if the first bond pad is configured in a first state, determine a configuration of a second bond pad on the controller;
- if the first bond pad is in a second state, run an initialization sequence to determine a width configuration of a bus;
- and
- communicate over the bus.
