Abstract
Superabsorbent polymer particles having superior absorption capacity and permeability are disclosed. A method of producing the superabsorbent polymer particles by applying a polyamine coating to the particles also is disclosed.
Claims36
A superabsorbent polymer particle comprising a base polymer having an amount of extractable material greater than 3%, by weight, and having a surface coating comprising a polyamine.
A method preparing superabsorbent polymer particles comprising:
- (a) providing surface-crosslinked superabsorbent polymer particles having an amount of extractable material greater than 3%, by weight;
- (b) applying a composition comprising a polyamine, an optional cosolvent, and an optional crosslinking agent to surfaces of the surface-crosslinked polymer particles;
- (c) maintaining the coated surface-crosslinked polymer particles of step (b) at about 25° C. to about 150° C. for a sufficient time to provide a cured polyamine coating on the surface-crosslinked polymer particles.
A hygiene article, comprising:
- (a) a liquid pervious topsheet;
- (b) a liquid impervious backsheet;
- (c) a core positioned between (a) and (b), said core comprising about 10% to 100% by weight of the superabsorbent polymer particles of claim 1 and 0% to about 90% by weight of hydrophilic fiber material;
- (d) optionally a tissue layer positioned directed above and below said core (c);
- and
- (e) optionally an acquisition layer positioned between (a) and (c).
