Abstract
Polypeptides derived from Ophiophagus hannah (king cobra) are disclosed together with their use in the treatment of disease, disorder or pathological condition in a patient in need of treatment. The polypeptides disclosed are functionally characterised by their ability to reduce the mammalian heart rate and/or their β-antagonist activity.

1-14. (canceled)
A method of reducing the heart rate of an animal comprising the step of administering to the animal a therapeutically effective amount of a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3, or an amino acid sequence having at least 60%, 90% or 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:3.
A beta-blocker medicament having antagonist activity towards the β1- and/or β2-adrenergic receptors, the medicament comprising a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3, or an amino acid sequence of at least 60%, 90% or 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:3.
A medicament comprising a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3, or an amino acid sequence of at least 60%, 90% or 95% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:3, and a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent, adjuvant or carrier.
