Abstract
The present invention is directed to liquid compositions containing chitosan, a chitosan derivative or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof, forming a dermal film after application onto the skin, useful for delivery of actives onto the skin surface and in the stratum corneum.

A method of forming a dermal film comprising the step of administering to a human or an animal skin surface and/or stratum corneum, a dermal composition comprising:
- (a) a chitosan, a chitosan derivative or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof,
- (b) at least a pharmaceutical or a cosmetic active ingredient, and
- (c) at least one volatile solvent,
- wherein a dermal film is formed after application of the dermal composition onto the skin of a human or animal subject subsequently to the evaporation of volatile solvent (c).
