Abstract
In a mobile electronic communication device for receiving a downlink radio link control (RLC) data block, the improvement comprising determining whether an Extension (E) bit within a header of the data block has been reset to zero, thereby denoting the existence of extension octets within the data block, summing the lengths of the extension octets, calculating the number of bytes in the data block, and discarding the data block in the event the sum of the lengths is greater than the number of bytes in the data block.
Claims5
A computer implemented method comprising:
- receiving a radio link control (RLC) data block having at least one extension bit for denoting presence of length indicators (LI) and extension data, wherein each of said length indicators comprises a value for indicating the length of a Logical Link Control Protocol Data Unit (LLC PDU)_that ends in said RLC data block;
- determining a logical value of said at least one extension bit;
- in the event that said at least one extension bit is a first logical value then
- calculating a sum of said length indicators in said RLC data block;
- determining a size of said extension data;
- and
- discarding said RLC data block in the event said sum is greater than said size and returning to said receiving step.
A mobile electronic communication device having a radio link control for receiving a downlink RLC data block, comprising:
- a determining circuit for determining whether an Extension ‘E’ bit within a header of an RLC data block has been reset to zero, thereby denoting the existence of extension octets within said data block, wherein each extension octet comprises length indicators (LI) for indicating the length of a Logical Link Control Protocol Data Unit (LLC PDU) that ends in that RLC data block, and a further Extension (E) bit to indicate any further optional extension octets;
- and
- an identifying circuit responsive to said determining circuit for summing said length indicators of said extension octets in said RLC data block;
- calculating a number of bytes in said RLC data block;
- and discarding said RLC data block in the event a sum of said length indicators is greater than said number of bytes in said RLC data block.
