Abstract
Disclosed herein is a device comprising a pair of electrodes; and a nanotube, a nanorod and/or a nanowire; the nanotube, nanorod and/or nanowire comprising a piezoelectric and/or pyroelectric polymeric composition; the pair of electrodes being in electrical communication with opposing surfaces of the nanotube, nanorod and/or a nanowire; the pair of electrodes being perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the nanotube, nanorod and/or a nanowire.

A method of manufacturing a device comprising:
- disposing a piezoelectric and/or pyroelectric polymeric composition in the pores of a template;
- the pores being substantially parallel to each other;
- disposing a pair of electrodes on opposing faces of the template;
- removing the template to leave behind a nanotube, a nanorod and/or a nanowire;
- the nanotube, the nanorod and/or the nanowire being in electrical communication with the pair of electrodes;
- the pair of electrodes being perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the nanotube and/or the nanorod.
