Abstract
A turbocharger includes a housing, a rotating assembly mounted within the housing, a lubrication passage for admitting lubricating oil into the turbocharger, and a lube oil filter, mounted within a portion of the lubrication passage so that oil entering the turbocharger will pass through the lube oil filter, removing any contaminants arising from the engine's lubrication system.

A turbocharger, comprising:
- a housing;
- a rotating assembly mounted within said housing;
- a lubrication passage for admitting lubricating oil into the turbocharger;
- and
- a lube oil filter, mounted within a portion of said lubrication passage, so that all oil entering the turbocharger will pass through the lube oil filter.

An automotive turbocharger, comprising:
- a housing;
- a rotating compressor and exhaust turbine assembly mounted within said housing;
- a lubrication passage for admitting lubricating oil into the turbocharger;
- a mounting pedestal for attaching the turbocharger to an engine and for conveying lubricating oil to said lubrication passage;
- and
- a lube oil filter, mounted within a portion of said lubrication passage extending within said mounting pedestal, such that oil entering the turbocharger will first pass through the lube oil filter.
