Abstract
The present invention provides thermal insulation products such as loose fill, batts and boards, such as duct boards and duct liner. The insulation products include randomly distributed inorganic fibers, which are supplemented with at least about five weight percent microspheres, macrospheres, or both, and preferably include hollow microspheres, which boost the insulation value of the fiberglass thermal insulation by a t least about 0.5R
Claims10
A thermal insulation of insulating inorganic fibers, comprising:
- a loose fill of about 50-95 weight percent of randomly distributed said inorganic fibers to which is added a loose fill of about 5-50 weight percent insulating hollow microspheres and a binder joining and holding together said about 5-50 weight percent hollow microspheres and said about 50-95 weight percent inorganic fibers, wherein said microspheres boost the insulation value of said thermal insulation comprised of said inorganic fibers by at least 0.5R, and wherein said microspheres are settled in a lower portion of said thermal insulation.
An insulated attic, comprising:
- a roof supported by a plurality of rafters, a plurality of joists, a cavity between adjacent said joists, a room ceiling at a bottom of said cavity;
- said cavity being at least partially filled by a loose fill insulation comprising about 50-95 weight percent of randomly distributed, insulating inorganic fibers to which is added about 5-95 weight percent insulating hollow microspheres and a binder joining and holding together said hollow microspheres and said inorganic fibers, wherein said hollow microspheres boost the insulation value of said loose fill insulation comprised of said inorganic fibers by at least about 0.5 R, and wherein said microspheres settle through said randomly distributed inorganic fibers so as to concentrate on a lower portion of said loose fill insulation.
