Abstract
Use of Ti and Nb cemented in TiC in prosthetic joints, such as prosthetic joint components made from sintered superhard materials.
Claims23
A method for making a sintered superhard prosthetic joint component comprising:
- forming a TiC substrate, said substrate including TiC and a carbide forming agent selected from the group consisting of Ti, Nb and a combination of Ti and Nb,
- placing said substrate in a can,
- said substrate being configured to achieve a shape and dimension desirable for use in a prosthetic joint component, and
- placing said can in a press and exposing said can and its contents to high pressure and high temperature in order to cause sintering of said substrate in order to form a sintered joint component.
