Abstract
The invention relates to a composition, comprising a thermoplastic polymer, a rate modifying agent and a biologically active agent, useful as a slow-release drug-delivery implant in the body of a human or animal that can be administered in liquid form into the body.
Claims20
A composition for forming a solid implant in situ within a body by exposure to body fluids, suitable for a controlled release of bioactive material, comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable, biodegradable, thermoplastic polymer, which is insoluble in aqueous media or human or animal body fluids, a pharmaceutically acceptable, biodegradable, water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble organic solvent, a pharmaceutically acceptable, water-soluble and biocompatible adjuvant and a biologically active agent, characterized in that the amount by weight of said solvent is higher than that of said thermoplastic polymer and in that the adjuvant is selected from the group consisting of ethanol, glycerol and glycerol formal.
