Emergency call forking and notification

A system, comprising:

• a first device to receive and store subscriber criteria for initiating a forking/notification service and contact information for one or more authorized recipients of the forking/notification service;
• a second device to receive an indication of an emergency call being placed by a calling device over a network, the emergency call being routed from the calling device to a public safety answering point (PSAP);
• and
• a notification server to automatically select one of the one or more authorized recipients being based on the subscriber criteria and notify the selected authorized recipient that an emergency call has been initiated from the calling device.

A computer-readable memory comprising computer-executable instructions, the computer-readable memory comprising:

• one or more instructions for receiving and storing subscriber criteria to notify a recipient of an emergency call;
• one or more instructions for receiving an indication of an emergency call being initiated from a calling device to a public safety answering point (PSAP);
• one or more instructions for comparing information associated with the calling device with the subscriber criteria;
• and
• one or more instructions for automatically notifying the recipient that an emergency call has been initiated from the calling device if the information about the calling device meets the subscriber criteria.

A method comprising:

• receiving and storing subscriber criteria to notify a recipient of an emergency call, the subscriber criteria including the originating location of an emergency call;
• receiving an indication of an emergency call placed from a calling device to a public safety answering point (PSAP);
• comparing the location of the calling device with the subscriber criteria;
• and
• automatically notifying the recipient that an emergency call has been initiated from the calling device if the information about the calling device meets the subscriber criteria.

A system comprising:

• means for storing subscriber criteria for initiating a forking/notification service;
• means for storing contact information for one or more recipients of the forking/notification service;
• means for receiving an indication of an emergency call being placed from a calling device to a public safety answering point (PSAP);
• means for automatically selecting one of the one or more recipients based on the subscriber criteria;
• and
• means for sending an audible portion of the emergency call to permit the selected recipient to listen to the emergency call between the calling device and the PSAP.
