Abstract
A radio altimeter having a high level of integrity is presented. The radio altimeter includes a processing path configured to process a return signal received from a receive antenna using a first modulation technique and a monitoring path configured to process the return signal received from the receive antenna using a second modulation technique.
Claims17
A radio altimeter having a high level of integrity, comprising:
- a processing path configured to process a return signal received from a receive antenna using a first modulation technique;
- and
- a monitoring path configured to process the return signal received from the receive antenna using a second modulation technique.
A method of providing a high level of integrity to an altitude determination, the method comprising:
- modulating a signal sent over a first portion of a processing path in a radio altimeter according to a first modulation technique and a second modulation technique;
- transmitting the modulated signal from a transmit antenna;
- modulating a local oscillator signal sent to the processing path in the radio altimeter to extract the first modulation signal;
- modulating a local oscillator signal sent to the monitoring path in the radio altimeter to extract the second modulation signal.

A radio altimeter system comprising
- a first radio altimeter positioned in an aircraft;
- and
- a second radio altimeter positioned in the aircraft, each radio altimeter including:
- a processing path configured to process a return signal received from a receive antenna using a first modulation technique to generate a first altitude;
- and
- a monitoring path configured to process the return signal using a second modulation technique to generate a second altitude.
