## Abstract

An arrangement of position transmitters on a selector rod for automatic speed change transmissions in motor vehicles, which interact with housing-mounted position sensors of an electrical speed detection circuit, at least one selector rod on its end regions being movably supported in cross walls of the housing of the transmissions and being actuated by means of a preferably electrohydraulically controlled speed selection unit where the selector rod projects through a through an opening in a cross wall of the transmission, which wall separates the oil compartment into the gear chamber which holds at least the speed selection unit and the position sensors, and the position transmitters are attached directly to the selector rod such that the selector rod with the position transmitters can be mounted through the through the opening as a mounting unit.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An arrangement of position transmitters on a selector rod for automatic speed change transmissions in motor vehicles, which interact with housing-mounted position sensors of an electrical speed detection circuit, at least one selector rod on its end regions being movably supported in cross walls of the housing of the transmission and being actuated by means of a preferably electrohydraulically controlled speed selection unit, wherein the selector rod projects through a through an opening in a cross wall of the transmission, which wall separates the oil compartment, into a gear chamber which holds at least the speed selection unit and the position sensors, and the position transmitters are attached directly to the selector rod such that the selector rod with the position transmitters can be mounted through the through hole as a mounting unit.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The arrangement according to claim 1, the selector rod is movably supported and sealed in the through opening of the cross wall by means of a sprayed-on plastic sleeve.

### Claim 3

The arrangement according to claim wherein said position transmitters are disposed between end-side connecting means of the selector rod on the speed selection unit and the cross wall.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the position transmitters comprise two permanent magnets which are disposed on a common pole lamination which interacts positively by way of a recess with a projection made on the selector rod.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The arrangement according to claim 1, wherein a thin-walled protective cap, which is connected to the pole lamination covers the permanent magnets.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The arrangement according to claim 4 wherein said pole lamination of the position transmitters is welded to the selector rod.

### Claim 7 (depends on 4)

The arrangement according to claim 4 wherein said pole lamination of the position transmitters is cemented to the selector rod.

### Claim 8 (depends on 4)

The arrangement according to claim 4 wherein said pole lamination of the position transmitters is caulked to the selector rod in the region of the projection.

### Claim 9 (depends on 4)

The arrangement according to claim 4 wherein said position transmitters are held on the selector rod by spraying a plastic jacket around it.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The arrangement according to claim 9 wherein said plastic jacket is made integrally with the plastic sleeve for supporting the selector rod in the cross wall.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The arrangement according to one claim 1 wherein said position transmitters are formed by local, magnetized selector rod regions.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The arrangement according to claim 1 wherein said position transmitters are formed in situ by spraying on plastic materials which contains magnetic particles.

### Claim 13

The arrangement according to claim wherein said selector rod is made preferably rectangular in cross section, and that the position transmitters are made on a narrow side of the selector rod.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The arrangement according to claim 1 wherein several selector rods for forward gears and for at least one reverse gear of the speed change transmission project through the cross wall, which separates the oil compartment, in corresponding openings, and the position transmitters, which are attached directly, lie essentially in a uniform measurement plane of the housing-mounted position sensors.

### Claim 15

A position sensing assembly for a speed changing transmission having a housing defining a compartment provided with a speed selector unit, and an opening communicating with said compartment, and a rod displaceable along the length thereof received through said opening and operatively connected at an inserted end thereof with said speed selector unit, comprising;
at least one position sensor disposed in said compartment, adjacent a line of travel of said rod and operatively connected to a detection circuit; and
at least one position transmitter disposed on said rod within said compartment displaceable into and out of excitation relationship with said position sensor.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

An assembly according to claim 15 wherein said position transmitter is magnetic.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

An assembly according to claim 16 wherein said position transmitter is disposed in a recess in a surface of said rod, within the profit of said rod.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

An assembly according to claim 16 wherein said transmitter is adhesively secured to said rod.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

An assembly according to claim 16 wherein said transmitter is embedded in a plastic material deposited on said rod.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

An assembly according to claim 16 wherein said transmitter comprises magnetic particles disposed in a plastic material deposited on said rod.
