## Abstract

A panel includes about 0.1% to about 95% by weight of a renewable component. The panel has at least one of a CAC value of at least about 25, an NRC value of at least about 0.25 and an STC of at least about 25. A method for manufacturing such panels is also provided.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A panel for use as a building material comprising:
about 0.1% to about 95% by weight of a renewable component; wherein said panel has at least one of a CAC value of at least about 25, an NRC value of at least about 0.25 and a STC value of at least about 25.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 wherein said renewable component comprises rice hulls.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having an eNRC of at least about 0.20.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having an air flow resistivity of less than about 8 mPa·s/m2.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having an MOR value of at least about 80 psi.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having a bulk density between about 7 lbs/ft3 and about 30 lbs/ft3.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having a thickness of between about 0.2 inches to about 1.5 inches.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 that sags less than about 1.5 inches in a 90% RH humidity chamber.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having a flame spread index of less than about 25.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 having a smoke development index of less than about 50.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 wherein said renewable component includes less than about 5% by weight of particles that are retained by a mesh screen with openings of about 0.312 inches.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 wherein said renewable component includes less than about 5% by weight of particles that are retained by a mesh screen with openings of about 0.132 inches.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 wherein said renewable component includes less than about 5% by weight of particles that are retained by a mesh screen with openings of about 0.022 inches.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The panel of claim 1 wherein a bulk density of said renewable component is between 5 and 50 lbs/ft3.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

A method for manufacture of the panel of claim 1, the method comprising the steps of:
forming an aqueous slurry;
forming a base mat on a foraminous wire from said aqueous slurry;
removing water from said base mat; and
finishing said base mat.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15 wherein said renewable component comprises rice hulls.

### Claim 17 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15 further comprising sizing said renewable component.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The method of claim 17, wherein said sizing step comprises sieving.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18 further comprising milling before said sizing step.
