## Abstract

In one embodiment, the invention is a method comprising contacting a composition comprising i) alumina particles having a particle size of about 1 to about 40 microns and a Mohs hardness of about 9.0 to about 9.5; ii) one or more alkyl sulphates; iii) one or more thickeners; and iv) water with the surface of glass or a ceramic frit disposed on the surface of glass. The contacting can be performed by applying the composition to the surface of the glass or the ceramic frit using an application apparatus. In one embodiment, the composition further comprises a lubricant. In another embodiment, the composition further comprises one or more ethoxylated alcohols. In another embodiment, the composition further comprises one or more fragrances.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising contacting a composition comprising
i) alumina particles having a particle size of about 1 to about 40 microns and a Mohs hardness of about 9.0 to about 9.5;
ii) one or more alkyl sulphates;
iii) one or more thickeners; and
iv) water
with a glass surface or a ceramic enamel frit disposed on a glass surface.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

A method according to claim 1 wherein the contacting is performed by applying the composition to the surface of the ceramic frit using an application apparatus.

### Claim 3

(canceled)

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

A method according to claim 2 wherein the composition comprises:
i) about 10 to about 80 percent by weight of alumina particles;
ii) about 0.1 to about 5 percent by weight of one or more alkyl sulphates;
iii) about 1 to about 10 percent by weight of one or more thickeners; and
iv) about 15 to about 80 percent by weight of water.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

A method according to claim 4 wherein the composition further comprises a lubricant.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

A method according to claim 5 wherein the lubricant is present in an amount of about 0 to about 25 percent by weight.

### Claim 7

(canceled)

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

A method according to claim 5 wherein the composition further comprises one or more ethoxylated alcohols.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

A method according to claim 8 wherein the one or more ethoxylated alcohols are present in an amount of about 0 to about 0.1 percent by weight.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

A method according to claim 8 wherein the composition further comprises one or more fragrances.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

A method according to claim 10 wherein one or more fragrances are present in an amount of about 0 to about 0.1 percent by weight.

### Claim 12

(canceled)

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

A method according to claim 1 wherein the one or more thickeners comprises cellulose, a derivative of cellulose, clay or an acrylic polymer.

### Claim 14

(canceled)

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

A method according to claim 1 which further comprises the step of cleaning the surface of the ceramic frit.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

A method according to claim 15 wherein the cleaner is a mixture of water and alcohols.

### Claim 17 (depends on 14)

A method according to claim 14 wherein the cleaning step is performed after application of the composition containing alumina particles.

### Claim 18 (depends on 15)

A method according to claim 15 wherein the method further comprises applying a glass primer system to the surface of the ceramic frit after applying the composition containing alumina particles.

### Claim 19 (depends on 15)

A method according to claim 15 wherein the method further comprises applying a glass primer system to the surface of the ceramic frit after applying the composition containing alumina particles and the cleaning step.

### Claim 20 (depends on 1)

A method according to claim 1 which further comprises applying an adhesive to the ceramic frit surface of the glass and contacting the glass with a second substrate wherein the adhesive is disposed between the glass and the second substrate.

### Claim 21 (depends on 20)

A method according to claim 20 wherein the second substrate is a flange of a window frame.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

A method according to claim 21 wherein the second substrate is the flange of a window for an automobile.

### Claim 23

A method of replacing a window in a structure which comprises
a) removing the old window from the window frame;
b) applying to the surface of a ceramic enamel frit disposed on the surface of a replacement glass window a composition comprising
i) alumina particles having a particle size of about 1 to about 40 microns and a Mohs hardness of about 9.0 to about 9.5;
ii) one or more alkyl sulphate;
iii) one or more thickeners; and
iv) water;
