Abstract
The present invention relates to an apparatus and method of manufacturing the apparatus for grinding and evenly disseminating solid materials within a vehicle or carrier. More specifically, the apparatus of the present invention may be comprised of an impeller with a plurality of grinding pegs extending therefrom. The plurality of grinding pegs extend from two faces of the impeller wherein the grinding pegs work in concert with a plurality of grooves on the impeller to finely grind the solid material and improve the turbulent flow within the vehicle. The end result is that the impeller of the present invention improves the efficiency of finely grinding and evenly dispersing the solid particles within the vehicle.
Claims46
An impeller for mixing particles within a vehicle comprising;
- a disk including oppositely outwardly directed faces that is receivable by a rotatable shaft wherein a periphery of each oppositely outwardly directed face of the disk is comprised of a plurality of grooves;
- and
- a plurality of grinding pegs extending from each oppositely outwardly directed faces of the disk.
An impeller comprising;
- a disk including oppositely outwardly directed faces and adapted to be coupled to a rotatable shaft;
- an inner portion and an outer portion of the disk comprised of polyurethane resins having different flexibilities wherein outer portion is bonded to the inner portion and is more flexible than the inner portion;
- a plurality of circumferentially spaced agitating grooves along the periphery of both oppositely directed faces of the outer portion;
- and
- a plurality of grinding pegs extending from the oppositely outwardly directed faces of the disk.
An impeller adapted to be attached to a rotatable shaft, comprising:
- a polyurethane disk having inner and outer portions of polyurethane resin having different flexibilities, the outer portion being bonded to the inner portion and having greater flexibility than the inner portion, the outer portion having two faces, each face having a flat surface with no more than ten circumferentially spaced, radially extending grooves defined therein;
- each of the grooves defining a cavity in the shape of a portion of a circular cylinder coaxial with a radius of the disk, each of the grooves extending from the edge of the disk radially inwardly to no more than one-fourth of the distance to the center of disk, each of the grooves defining edges where the curved surface formed by each groove meets the flat surface of the face, the edges being parallel and not disposed along a radius of the disk;
- the grooves of a first face being circumferentially offset with respect to the grooves on the second face so that a groove on the first face is circumferentially spaced between the two adjacent grooves on the second face;
- a plurality of cubically shaped grinding pegs extending from both the first face and the second face of the outer portions of the polyurethane disk wherein the pegs are evenly spaced about the outer portion of the impeller between two grooves of the first face and centered over a portion of the longitudinal axis of a groove on the second face and circumferentially offset such that the pegs alternate from the first face and the second face;
- attachment means for securely attaching the less flexible inner portion of the disk to a rotatable shaft having a reduced-diameter portion, the attachment means including a central opening at the center of the disk and is adapted to receive a rotatable shaft and allow either the first face or the second face of the disk to face a preselected direction relative to the rotatable shaft;
- and
- a plurality of substantially rigid ribs extending radially outward from the metal hub and imbedded in the interior of the disk.
An impeller comprising;
- a disk including oppositely outwardly directed faces and adapted to be coupled to a rotatable shaft wherein the disk is comprised of a material selected from the group consisting of, polyurethane, a polyethylene, a polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene, nylon, a ceramic material, a metallic material, and combinations thereof;
- an inner portion and an outer portion of the disk comprised of different polyurethane resins having different flexibilities wherein outer portion is bonded to the inner portion and is more flexible than the inner portion;
- a plurality of circumferentially spaced agitating grooves along the periphery of both oppositely directed faces of the outer portion;
- and
- a plurality of grinding pegs extending from the oppositely outwardly directed faces of the disk.
