Photoelectric coupling assembly and manufacturing method thereof

A method of manufacturing a photoelectric coupling assembly comprising:

• providing a photoelectric conversion unit equipped with a photoelectric conversion element having an active layer;
• providing a main unit of a molded article made of resin having an optical fiber insertion hole configured and arranged to have an optical fiber inserted there-through such that a distal end of the optical fiber faces the active layer of the photoelectric conversion element, the main unit having a front surface onto which the photoelectric conversion unit is mounted and a side surface that is contiguous with the front surface;
• forming a lead on the main unit of the molded article by insert molding a lead frame into the main unit while the main unit is being molded so that a first surface of the lead is exposed at the front surface of the main unit and to be electrically connected to the photoelectric conversion element, the lead including an engaging portion having a width that increases in a direction away from the front surface with at least a portion of the engaging portion being contained inside the resin of the main unit;
• and
• cutting the lead frame so that a second surface of the lead is exposed at the side surface of the main unit.
