Abstract
The present invention relates to materials and methods for the treatment of arterial diseases having impaired arteriogenesis and angiogenesis. More particularly, the invention provides materials and methods for treating arterial disease using a gene therapy vector expressing Bmx tyrosine kinase.
Claims21
A method for increasing arteriogenesis or angiogenesis in a mammalian subject comprising:
- administering to a mammalian subject in need of arteriogenesis or angiogenesis a composition that comprises a polynucleotide that comprises a nucleotide sequence that encodes a Bmx tyrosine kinase amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- (b) the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 4;
- (c) fragments of (a) or (b) that retain BMX tyrosine kinase activity;
- and
- (d) amino acid sequences that are at least 70% identical to (a), (b), or (c) and that retain BMX tyrosine kinase activity.
A method for increasing arteriogenesis or angiogenesis in a mammalian subject comprising:
- administering to a mammalian subject in need of arteriogenesis or angiogenesis a composition that comprises cells transduced with a polynucleotide that causes elevated expression of a BMX tyrosine kinase amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- (b) the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 4;
- (c) fragments of (a) or (b) that retain BMX tyrosine kinase activity;
- and
- (d) amino acid sequences that are at least 70% identical to (a), (b), or (c) and that retain BMX tyrosine kinase activity.
The use of a polynucleotide that encodes a polypeptide with Bmx tyrosine kinase activity for the manufacture of a medicament to treat coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease, wherein the polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- (b) the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 4;
- (c) fragments of (a) or (b) that retain BMX tyrosine kinase activity;
- and
- (d) amino acid sequences that are at least 70% identical to (a), (b), or (c) and that retain Bmx tyrosine kinase activity.
