A method for treating or preventing a basement membrane disease or disorder comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a stem cell from bone marrow, peripheral blood, or umbilical cord blood of a subject lacking said basement membrane disease or disorder, wherein said administering treats or prevents said basement membrane disorder.
