Abstract
A method of making a cobalt-boron alloy includes contacting an aqueous suspension of an oxide of cobalt, particularly a highly crystalline cobalt oxide, with a borohydride such as sodium borohydride. The resulting alloy may be used as a catalyst to produce gaseous hydrogen by hydrolysis of aqueous sodium borohydride.
Claims19
A method of making a cobalt-boron alloy, comprising contacting an oxide of cobalt with a borohydride.
A method of making a catalyst useful for catalyzing the formation of H2 from a borohydride, said method comprising contacting an aqueous suspension of crystalline particles of CO3O4 or LiCoO2 with an excess of sodium borohydride under conditions effective to reduce the CO3O4 or LiCoO2 to form substantially or entirely amorphous particles of a cobalt-boron alloy comprised of at least 50 weight percent CO2B.
