Abstract
An input block of data and a key that includes multiple sub-keys are received by a block cipher. A nonlinear substitution is performed on at least a portion of the data, wherein the nonlinear substitution is achieved by multiplying the portion of the data by one of the sub-keys over a finite field of even characteristic, modulo a fixed primitive polynomial. An output block of ciphertext is then generated.
Claims21
A method of securing data, comprising:
- receiving an input block of data by a block cipher;
- receiving a key by the block cipher, wherein the key includes a plurality of sub-keys;
- performing a nonlinear substitution on at least a portion of the data, wherein performing the nonlinear substitution includes multiplying the portion of the data by one of the plurality of sub-keys over a finite field of even characteristic, modulo a fixed primitive polynomial;
- and
- generating an output block of ciphertext.
A block cipher encryption system comprising:
- a first input to receive data;
- a second input to receive a key that includes a plurality of sub-keys;
- a substitution encryption logic component, connected with the first input and the second input, to perform a nonlinear substitution on at least a portion of the data by multiplying the portion of the data by one of the plurality of sub-keys over a finite field of even characteristic, modulo a fixed primitive polynomial;
- and
- an output, connected with the substitution encryption logic, to generate an output block of ciphertext.
A computer readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing system, cause the processing system to perform a method comprising:
- receiving an input block of data by a block cipher;
- receiving a key by the block cipher, wherein the key includes a plurality of sub-keys;
- performing a nonlinear substitution on at least a portion of the data, wherein performing the nonlinear substitution includes multiplying the portion of the data by one of the plurality of sub-keys over a finite field of even characteristic, modulo a fixed primitive polynomial;
- and
- generating an output block of ciphertext,.
