Abstract
A security storage container has a primary security feature that is adapted to be locked and unlocked with an appropriate key. A secondary security feature is activated when the security storage container is opened without first unlocking the lock with the key. In one embodiment, the secondary security feature includes prongs that are moved to an extended position when the primary security feature of the container is defeated. In the extended position, the prongs will at least damage the item of merchandise protected by the security storage container. The extended position of the prongs may also further lock the item of merchandise within the security storage container.
Claims20
A security device comprising:
- a frame;
- an interior chamber formed in the frame adapted to receive an item of merchandise;
- a lid mounted on the frame and movable between a fully open position adapted to allow the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber and a closed position adapted to prevent the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber;
- a first lock tab carried by one of the frame and lid;
- a second lock tab carried by the other of the frame and lid;
- a third lock tab;
- a locking engagement between the first and second lock tabs which locks the lid in the closed position;
- and
- an engagement between the first and third lock tabs which prevents the lid from moving to the fully open position upon defeat of the locking engagement between the first and second lock tabs.
A security device comprising:
- a frame;
- an interior chamber formed in the frame adapted to receive an item of merchandise;
- a lid mounted on the frame and movable between a fully open position adapted to allow the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber, a partially open position adapted to prevent the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber and a closed position adapted to prevent the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber;
- a locking mechanism having a locked position which locks the lid in the closed position and an unlocked position which allows the lid to move from the closed position to the fully open position;
- a link between the frame and the lid having an inactivated position when the lid is in the closed position and an activated position upon defeat of the locking mechanism in which the link prevents the lid from moving from the partially open position to the fully open position;
- an item-engaging member having a disengaged position in which the item-engaging member is adapted to be disengaged from the item of merchandise when the item is in the interior chamber and an engaged position in which the item-engaging member is adapted to engage the item of merchandise when the item is in the interior chamber;
- and
- wherein upon defeat of the link the lid is allowed to move from the partially open position to the fully open position and the item-engaging member is disposed in the engaged position whereby the item-engaging member is adapted to damage the item of merchandise or prevent removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber.
A security device comprising:
- a frame;
- an interior chamber formed in the frame adapted to receive an item of merchandise;
- a lid mounted on the frame and movable between a fully open position adapted to allow the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber, a partially open position adapted to prevent the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber and a closed position adapted to prevent the removal of the item of merchandise from the interior chamber;
- a locking mechanism having a locked position which locks the lid in the closed position and an unlocked position which allows the lid to move from the closed position to the fully open position;
- a link between the frame and the lid having an inactivated position when the lid is in the closed position and an activated position upon defeat of the locking mechanism in which the link prevents the lid from moving from the partially open position to the fully open position;
- wherein the link moves in a first direction from the inactivated position to the activated position;
- a stop mounted on the frame and having first and second positions;
- wherein the stop moves from the first position to the second position in response to the movement of the link from the inactivated position to the activated position;
- and
- upon defeat of the link whereby the lid is allowed to move from the partially open position to the fully open position, the stop blocks movement of the link in a second direction opposite the first direction.
