IPTV receiver and method of providing channel map information

A method of providing channel map information for building a channel map in Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) receiver, the method comprising:

• connecting a service provider through a network;
• receiving a master system information (SI) table record;
• parsing the received master SI table record and reading channel map management information included in the master SI table record;
• receiving a channel map record based on the read channel map management information;
• and
• parsing the received channel map record and reading a channel map instance included in the channel map record.

An Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) receiver comprising:

• a network interface transmitting and receiving an Internet protocol (IP) packet through a network;
• an IP network stack confirming a destination of the received IP packet and classifying the IP packet according to protocols;
• a system information (SI) decoder parsing a master SI table included in the IP packet, reading channel map management information included in the master SI table, parsing a channel map record included in the IP packet, and reading a channel map instance included in the channel map record;
• and
• an IPTV terminal function (ITF) operation controller controlling the reception of the channel map record based on the read channel map management information.
