## Abstract

A method for providing television advertising includes receiving user input for selecting an advertising parameter and providing a user with an advertisement corresponding to the advertising parameter.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method implemented by a television set-top terminal (STT), comprising:
outputting by the STT an advertisement to a television; and
determining by the STT a viewing status of the advertisement.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein determining by the STT the viewing status further comprises determining whether the advertisement is going to be viewed, is being viewed, or has been viewed.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein determining whether the advertisement, is being viewed further comprises soliciting viewer input during presentation of the advertisement on the television.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein determining whether the advertisement, is going to be viewed further comprises soliciting viewer input before presentation of the advertisement on the television.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein determining whether the advertisement, has been viewed further comprises soliciting viewer input after presentation of the advertisement on the television.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising incrementing a counter when the advertisement is being presented by the STT while the television is on and abstaining from incrementing the counter if the television is not turned on.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising maintaining an advertisement tracking score corresponding to a value associated with advertisements that have been presented to one or more users over a defined time period.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising, responsive to determining that the advertisement has been viewed, updating the tracking score and determining whether the tracking score is greater than a predetermined value.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising terminating presentation of the advertisement to the STT if the tracking score is greater than the predetermined value.
