Secure digital signature system

A computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having stored thereon

• computer usable program code for receiving a request, by a client, for instantiation of an electronic document;
• computer usable program code for, responsive to successful completion of mutual authentication between a web application server and the client, providing the electronic document to the client;
• computer usable program code for receiving a set of changes associated with the electronic document to form a modified document;
• computer usable program code for, responsive to receiving, from the client, a request to generate a digital signature for the modified document, generating the digital signature using a private key of the web application server and an identity of an end-user associated with the client;
• and
• computer usable program code for signing the modified document with the digital signature.

A data processing system comprising:

• a bus system;
• a communications system coupled to the bus system;
• a memory connected to the bus system, wherein the memory includes computer usable program code;
• and
• a processing unit coupled to the bus system, wherein the processing unit executes the computer usable program code to receive a request, by a client, for instantiation of an electronic document;
• provide the electronic document to the client in response to successful completion of mutual authentication between a web application server and the client;
• receive a set of changes associated with the electronic document to form a modified document;
• generate the digital signature using a private key of the web application server and an identity of an end-user associated with the client in response to receiving a request to generate a digital signature for the modified document from the client;
• and sign the modified document with the digital signature.
