Abstract
A bone grinder utilizing a removable cutter head unit for maintaining the processing of bone and for substantially precluding the main body of the bone grinder from being exposed to bone tissue.
Claims22
A bone grinder comprising:
- a main body with one or more mounting shafts and one or more drive shafts;
- and
- a removable cutter head unit attachable to the one or more mounting shafts with two or more cutting heads for engaging to the drive shafts to grind bone within a cutting zone with the removable cutter head unit having a bone input and bone output separate from the main body of the bone grinder.
A cutter head unit comprising:
- a sterilely packaged removable cutter head unit body attachable to a bone grinder with the unit having two or more cutting heads positioned to create a cutting zone for cutting bone.
A bone grinder comprising:
- a main body with one or more mounting shafts and one or more drive shafts;
- and
- a removable cutter head unit attachable to the one or more mounting shafts comprising
- a bone input for inserting bone there into;
- two cutter heads below the bone input for grinding bone
- a bone output below the cutter heads for removing ground bone;
- wherein the main body housing with one or more mounting shafts and one or more drive shafts remains substantially free of bone material.

A method of grinding bone comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a bone grinder having a main body with mounting shafts and drive shafts;
- b. providing a cutter head unit having at least two cutters with a cutting zone with attachments for the mounting shafts;
- c. attaching the cutter head unit to the mounting shafts of the main body so the drive shafts engage the at least two cutters;
- d. providing bone to the at least two cutters for the cutters to grind the bone within the cutting zone;
- and
- e. removing ground bone from the cutter head unit.

A method of grinding two or more different types of bone comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a bone grinder having a main body with mounting shafts and drive shafts;
- b. providing a first removable cutter head unit having cutters with a cutting zone with attachments for the mounting shafts;
- c. attaching the cutter head unit to the mounting shafts of the main body so the drive shafts engage the cutters;
- d. providing a first type of bone to the cutters of the first removable head unit for the cutters to grind the bone within the cutting zone;
- e. removing a first type ground bone from the cutter head unit;
- f. removing the first removable cutter head unit and attaching a second removable cutter head unit having cutters with a cutting zone with attachments for the mounting shafts to the mounting shafts of the main body so the drive shafts engage the cutters of the second removable cutter head;
- g. providing a second type of bone to the cutters of the second removable head unit for the cutters to grind the bone within the cutting zone;
- and
- h. removing a second type ground bone from the cutter head unit
- wherein the first type ground bone is substantially free from the second type ground bone and the second type ground bone is substantially free from the first type ground bone.
